Shooting of Main Task

Hi, everyone. I can finally say that I've finished the shooting of my main task so only editing is left. I haven't finished with editing yet but I soon will. There are about 60 of different footages and you have to choose the perfect one. I hope that this week I will finish and upload it firstly to Blogger and then on to YouTube.

The shooting started on Thursday afternoon and it was extremely hot outside. Both me and actors were wearing the blazers and we thought that we would soon be fried. We firstly filmed the last scene in which main character receives the suitcase from the stranger. The one scene was filmed in many different shots.

After that we switched to the bench scene which is the first scene of a film. Again, many different shots of one scene. Also we could finally be comfortable wearing blazers because it was filmed inside.

The hardest scene was in the cafe because firstly it was even hotter than outside but because in the scene the characters didn't have to wear blazers we could take them off. Secondly the actors didn't always act as I wanted. I allowed them to improvise a bit but I also tried to explain to them how they should act. It took some time to get the right acting. We also had to do everything a bit fast because one of our actors was leaving soon but fortunately we succeeded.

On Friday we made mostly close ups of props like knife inside suitcase, card, messages on a phone. The main actor said that we wouldn't come but we didn't need him on that day. After finishing the shooting my Media teacher recommended me to go to Upbeat or Jamendo to download free music for my film.

So having everything I need I can finally switch to editing

The anime thriller ''Ghost in the Shell'' was directed in 1995 by Mamoru Oshii and is based on 1989's manga with the same title written by Masamune Siro. Music Copyright in Short Films

In the short films the music can play as important role as characters, setting, props etc. It sets a certain mood of the character so it is much easier for audience to understand his/her motifs. However each piece of music has an author who owns copyright protected by the law. It means that he/she is the only one to have the right for benefiting from the result of his intellectual activity and other people, as a general rule, can't use the work without his consent. In order to use the music of any artist or composer, it's important to sign a license agreement in which a permission is given to paste the artist's music into the film. How it happens, normally you go on the musician's main site in order to ask them about your project and why you want to paste the music you need. Critical Reflection

One of the most challenging parts of the short film convention was the length. In my first pitch the story was so complex that it would about 15 minutes while my main task has to last no more than 5 minutes. In addition, the short films which inspired me like Eric Kissack’s ‘’The Gunfighter’’ (2014) and Charles Williams’ ‘’All These Creatures’’ (2018) lasted around 10 minutes. But what was on my side is that another key convention of short films is that their story can be simple. So I made my pitch less complex so it could last around 5 minutes. Talking about sound, the only non-diegetic sound in the film is the music which sets the mood for the film. A big influence on my music choice for the film was The Beach Boys studio album ‘’Pet Sounds’’ (1966) which is a concept album with songs linked to each other.
