Sound is important in film because it engages the audience: it helps with conveying information, adds value to the certain moment of the movie, evokes emotional response, emphasizes what's happening on screen and indicates the mood. When it's used properly, it can play not the last role. Although sound is often considered as after-throught for post-production, the bad sound can ruin the film because even though the rest is done well, the bad sound will not allow audience to dive into the film and plot.
There are two types of sound. One of them is called diegetic sound which originates from within the film. It's any type of sound which is happened in the plot and characters can hear it. It can be everything which is considered part of the film's world, for example dialogues, action, phone call, music which characters listen to etc.
The opposite to diegetic sound is non diegetic. This type of sound is everything which is not linked to the world and character can't hear it. The non diegetic sound can be soundtrack, narrator, film score etc. For my shirt film the non-diegetic sound can be the music from The Beach Boys album ''Pets Sound'' which is my biggest inspiration.
