Feminist Theories in Noir

The feminist theories can really work in noir films. For example we can have Laura Mulvey because we see that men are mostly the centre of the plot. While women in noir play mostly supporting role rather than main role. Also the appearance of women is always good-looking which sometimes makes them look like nothing but an object which is Van Zoonen theory. They sometimes act as weak while male characters are portrayed strong physically.

Opening Scene in ''Ghost in the Shell'' (1995)

The anime thriller ''Ghost in the Shell'' was directed in 1995 by Mamoru Oshii and is based on 1989's manga with the same title written by Masamune Siro. The anime manga and film both had a massive impact on the development of cyberpunk, neonoir, science fiction, thriller etc. Even Wachowski brothers said that ''Ghost in the Shell'' had a huge influence on creating ''Matrix''. The scene contains the process of making the ''Ghost in the shell''-the robot for special tasks. The beginning of the scene is mostly filled with close up shots of certain body parts to make the audience know how robots are made. Critical Reflection

One of the most challenging parts of the short film convention was the length. In my first pitch the story was so complex that it would about 15 minutes while my main task has to last no more than 5 minutes. In addition, the short films which inspired me like Eric Kissack’s ‘’The Gunfighter’’ (2014) and Charles Williams’ ‘’All These Creatures’’ (2018) lasted around 10 minutes. But what was on my side is that another key convention of short films is that their story can be simple. So I made my pitch less complex so it could last around 5 minutes. Talking about sound, the only non-diegetic sound in the film is the music which sets the mood for the film. A big influence on my music choice for the film was The Beach Boys studio album ‘’Pet Sounds’’ (1966) which is a concept album with songs linked to each other. In the short films the music can play as important role as characters, setting, props etc. It sets a certain mood of the character so it is much easier for audience to understand his/her motifs. However each piece of music has an author who owns copyright protected by the law. It means that he/she is the only one to have the right for benefiting from the result of his intellectual activity and other people, as a general rule, can't use the work without his consent.
