The only thing that I failed to do was the microphone sound because it all sounded very quiet so I thought that it would be even less heard. As a result, I left it the way it is.   One of the most challenging parts of the short film convention was the length. In my first pitch the story was so complex that it would about 15 minutes while my main task has to last no more than 5 minutes. In addition, the short films which inspired me like Eric Kissack’s ‘’The Gunfighter’’ (2014) and Charles Williams’ ‘’All These Creatures’’ (2018) lasted around 10 minutes. But what was on my side is that another key convention of short films is that their story can be simple. So I made my pitch less complex so it could last around 5 minutes. Talking about sound, the only non-diegetic sound in the film is the music which sets the mood for the film. A big influence on my music choice for the film was The Beach Boys studio album ‘’Pet Sounds’’ (1966) which is a concept album with songs linked to each other. (55) Year 13 Second Draft - YouTube This is my second draft of my Year 13 main coursework. There is a lot of improvement if comparing to the first draft but there are still some moments which could be better. For example, I need to solve the sound problem because it's not always heard what characters say. So by the time the final draft is released, I'll make sure that the volume is high enough to hear the protagonists' voices. Another key thing is to get rid of titles that appear at the end of the film. I just thought that it would be appropriate to give credits to everyone who participated in my filmmaking process but the teacher said that after the end of film it has to be only the title ''The End'' and that's all. Which means that if I do this, my coursework will last 4:20 minutes which is less than 5. In order to solve that problem, I will add the additional establishing shots.

  This is the pitch for my short film which I'm doing to make this half of term. Considering that its length should be no more than 5 minutes, not too much happens. The film is a melodrama and includes male protagonist who falls into a girl who was walking nearby and and offers a date in a cafe. On the following day the pair meets in the cafe and have a conversation about their personal life, they are both having a good time. In the last scene the boy and girl are leaving the cafe and both agree that they enjoyed a lot and look forward to meet again. Then the male character returns home and falls on the bed with a smile on his face. The establishing shots were made in London during the half-term but the rest will be shot in Ellesmere College where I study at. During this weekend I have filmed the short extract which will then be developed into a big short film which I'll release in the end. Though in my opinion, for preliminary task the job was done pretty well, I still think that there are some aspects to improve. The first thing to which I payed attention to is the wind noise which interferes the audiences to immerse into the film. It happened because though I was given a mic, I found it useless because my extract didn't have any dialogues so as I thought, there was no point in regulating the sound, I was mistaken. When I start making my main task, I'll definitely use the mic in order to prevent such situations. Another thing which needs an improvement is the moment in extract when the protagonist sees the group of boys walking and then smiles. The thing is that in my script they had to be just one girl with whom male protagonist falls in love. In addition there had to be the close ups so the audiences would know what's so...

  No filming can happen without the equipment. The camera is responsible for video recording, sound engineering is responsible for audio recording and footage card saves the footages we got while filming. For video recording I will be using the DSLR camera Nikon. They are small and light and with many modern features, an electronic viewfinder and access to the great range of mirrorless lenses. For sound recording I will have a boom microphone. It offers the high quality sound by capturing certain sounds without capturing any ambient noise. It will be especially useful for recording the side effects sound for post production. Another useful equipment for filming is the camera tripod. It's very important because it helps to make camera focus on one position and it holds it very tight. If you film without using tripod, your camera would will twitch because of your hands shaking. First thing why I chose ''All These Creatures'' is that the main character can be an inspiration to protagonist of my movie. In ''All These Creatures'' the main hero explores the mental state of his father and links it with the cicadas which symbolizes changes. This is similar to the protagonist of my film but instead he explores love, alienation, life and everything which would make him grown up. Secondly, most of the ''All These Creatures'' sound is non-diegetic so the vast majority of sound is either the narrator speaking or the film score music. I plan to use the same technique but instead the non-diegetic sound is going to be the songs from ''Pet Sounds'' album on which my film is partly based. Also I'll try to make my movie have more dialogue scenes.   Considering that the short film is obviously shorter than feature-length, the less locations take place, the less amount of actors involved, the production itself takes not so much time, so as a result the budget of these films will be way, way lower. Because my film is the Year 13 advanced portfolio, I am not going to have a budget and no one is going to be paid for production. However, while doing the filmmaking, we use the expensive equipment which is the digital camera, camera stand, microphone, sound recording. We're not paying for it for my film but that's what the team usually does when they make a professional movie. Of course with the rise of Internet everyone is able to create a unique project which doesn't have to cost money. Basically, everyone is able to film a short movie even on his or her phone. Short films are very limited in length. So by their very nature they restrict the number of ideas you can explore, the characters you can imagine, and so on. Because of this, you have to make very different decisions when it comes to plot structure, characters, conflict, and idea choice than you would for a longer film.   I have recently watched an amazing western short film ''The Gunfighter'' (2014) directed by Eric Kissack. The synopsis of a film is when main character enters the saloon, everyone there inside starts hearing the narrator's speech. The storyteller starts sharing the secrets which everyone in a saloon tries to hide and in the end the unpredictable consequences happen. What I really enjoyed in a movie is that the elements of sound which 99% act as non-diegetic sounds (soundtrack, narrator) in the films here turn into diegetic because the characters are able to hear it.
